Aspiring hunters still have time to register for a hunter safety course happening in Guthrie County.

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources, Guthrie County Conservation Board, and Panorama FFA Chapter are holding the course this Thursday and Friday in the Panorama Secondary Building in Panora. Conservation Director Joe Hanner says the day-and-a-half long course is a lot of fun, “We actually shoot some clay birds out at the Lake Panorama fin and feather range and go through all aspects of hunter safety, and we’d love to get youngsters out there but we also like to get adults that haven’t done it before, maybe their child, or grandchild, nephew, and niece has shown some interest in and they need to get their hunter safety done. So we get a few adults that come to the courses also.”

Anyone born after January 1st, 1972 are required to successfully complete a hunter education course and must be at least 12-years-old before obtaining a state hunting license. The course will last from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Thursday and from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Friday. Attendance both days is required, and participants should bring a sack lunch Friday. For a link to register, visit here.
