A Jefferson man faces multiple felonies for a June incident.
According to court documents, 29-year-old Benjamin Allen faces two Class C Felonies for identity theft of over $10,000 and first degree theft and a Class D Felony for forgery. The charges stem from an investigation from the Greene County Sheriff’s office that began on June 12th. Court documents show a family member of Allen claimed Allen allegedly stole a checkbook from the victim’s residence in the 2000 block of 280th Street near Rippey. The victim stated the checks were from a bank account at Wells Fargo Bank in Perry.
During the investigation, a total of 15 checks were fraudulently used between March 19th and April 30th, totaling $10,225. Court documents show that Allen admitted to the victim of taking the checkbook and withdrawing money from the account. When investigators interviewed Allen he said he knew about the incident.
Warrants were issued by the Greene County Sheriff’s office and Allen was arrested by the Jefferson Police Department Monday. He was booked into the Greene County Jail. Allen is additionally facing a felony for second degree theft for stealing jewelry from a Rippey resident from earlier this year.
