It wasn’t easy, nor even probable for ADM to pull off the win on Saturday night.
The Tigers trailed 2-1 in the bottom of 7th after a two-run blast by Newton’s Madison Thayer in the top of the 7th frame.
ADM put the first run on the board in the bottom of the 6th with a solo shot, home run by 8th grader, Aliya Yanga, but the lead was short-lived.
Coming from behind to win isn’t something that ADM is unfamiliar doing. The Tigers had big 7th inning rallies in games earlier this season, with wins over Carlisle, and Norwalk. But that’s regular season. This is postseason. Do or die. Win or go home. Two very different atmospheres.
However, ADM, again wasn’t phased by the pressure.
Senior, Emily Hatchitt battled and started things offensively with a leadoff single in the bottom of the 7th inning. Emily Kay subbed in to courtesy run for Hatchitt. Then, Olivia Tollari was walked. Then, a third intentional walk from Newton to Abbie Hlas loaded the bases for ADM with just one out.
Next up, Brynn Busta, unfortunately she struck out, and the Tigers were down to their final out of the season.
Back to the plate came Aliya Yanga. Her solo shot homerun put the lone ADM run on the board in the 6th inning, so could the 8th grader do it again, in a high pressure, 4A postseason scenario?
Yes. Simply, yes.
Yanga came through in the clutch and hit a single to right-center bringing home two runs for the walkoff, 3-2, ADM Tigers win.
ADM survives and advances to host the Regional Championship Game on Tuesday night in Adel. ADM is set to host Oskaloosa Tuesday evening. The Indians defeated Norwalk on Saturday evening to advance and face ADM. Game time is scheduled for 7:00pm Tuesday night in Adel.
