There are a couple of upcoming summer youth programs with the Jefferson Parks and Recreation Department.

The Blastball League is for boys and girls ages 4-5 that will be held on Mondays and Tuesdays from July 15th-July 30th from 6-6:30pm at the city softball field. Sydney Schiltz will lead participants through the basic fundamentals for beginning ball players. No gloves are needed and the cost to participate is $20. JPRD Director Vicky Lautner says the program helps to develop baseball and softball skills at an early age.

“Blastball is just learning how to throw and catch, and then we guide them to just one base. They run to just one base and it honks. So that teaches them at least when they go out for T-ball, they know which direction to run.”

Another youth program is for 6-12-year-olds with Pre-Sous Chefs. It will be held on July 16th and 17th from 2-3:30pm at the Greene County Community Center. Hy-Vee instructors will help participants learn and prepare healthy snacks. The cost for the program is $20.
