A Democratic Presidential candidate paid a visit to Perry Sunday evening, as former Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper stopped at Hotel Pattee on his campaign tour.

Hickenlooper was making his first trip to Dallas County since announcing his intention to seek the Democratic nomination for President of the United States, and he was greeted by a full room in Perry. He first talked about his background, which included time spent as a geologist, small business owner, Mayor of Denver, and then Governor. He then discussed his plans for getting people together to tackle the problems faced around the country, focusing on a moderate agenda built on cooperation. After his speech he answered questions from the audience, which ranged from the environment to his electability and foreign policy.

Hickenlooper then took some time to tell Raccoon Valley Radio why he feels he’s the right candidate for the job, highlighting his successes in Colorado. “I’m the one person running who has actually done all the things that the others are just talking about. We got to near universal healthcare coverage, we passed universal background checks for gun purchases in a ‘purple state,’ I can do that for the country. And I’m the only person running that has actually had that level of progressive achievement, and been able to bring people together. Really get more people at the table so that the change I think is deeper and longer lasting.”

Hickenlooper is now the 10th Presidential candidate to visit Dallas County, and one of 24 vying for the Democratic nomination in the 2020 primary election. Other candidates who have already visited Dallas County include: former Texas Congressman Beto O’Rourke, Southbend, Indiana Mayor Pete Buttegieg, and Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar, who each visited Adel; former Maryland Congressman John Delaney, Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders, and Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren, who stopped in Perry; Hawaii Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard and California Businessman Andrew Yang, who attended the Dallas County Democrats annual fundraiser in Adel; and New Jersey Senator Cory Booker, who visited Waukee.
