Greene County added some late season softball games to its schedule to fill a void between late June and the start of the Class 3A postseason on July 10 in State Center vs. West Marshall. One of those late additions is tonight when Greene County takes the short trip east to Ogden. The Bulldogs, a member of the West Central Activities Conference, was 20-7 through July 1, while the Rams are 9-17 and coming off a season high in runs scored during a July 1 victory in Storm Lake over St. Mary’s in three innings via the 12-run rule, 18-1.
Junior Denali Loecker leads Ogden on the pitching rubber and at the plate. She’s 16-5 as a pitcher with a 1.58 earned run averaged and had 153 strikeouts to just 16 walks through July 1. At the plate, Loecker is listed as having a .635 batting average. The Bulldogs have seven other players batting anywhere from .310 to .400.
The Rams have won five of their last seven games with an eighth grade battery of Emma Hoyle pitching and Emma Stream catching. Three batters are hitting over .300, led by senior Megan Carey at .386. Junior Izzy Bravard and senior Jenna Beyers also have batting averages above .300.
