Monday evening, a large crowd of people gathered at the Adel Stage and Pavilion for the opportunity to hear from the latest Democratic candidate for President of the United States to visit Dallas County: Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar.

Attendees were first treated to a potluck dinner, with entrees provided by Klobuchar’s campaign and the Dallas County Democratic Party. The Senator then showed up and talked about a wide range of topics, including climate change, foreign policy, and rising healthcare and prescription drug costs. She also discussed her qualifications for becoming the next President, which she said she had a limited time to discuss during last week’s Democratic debates. “My whole work in public service has been about helping people. And I said that on that debate stage when we had 45 seconds to summarize why people should vote for us. My first argument was that my whole career I’ve listened to people and I’ve gotten things done. That’s why I have been the lead Democrat on over 100 bills that have been passed and signed into law, alright? That is a lot of bills! And I’ve done it by listening to people, by getting ideas. I’ve seen these things and I have gotten ahead of a lot of these issues.”

Following her speech, Klobuchar mingled with the crowd to answer questions from attendees one-on-one. She is now the ninth Democratic candidate to visit Dallas County this year, with a 10th coming this Sunday in former Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper set to visit Perry, and one of 24 individuals vying for the Presidential nomination in the 2020 primary election. Other candidates who have already visited include: former Texas Congressman Beto O’Rourke, and Southbend, Indiana Mayor Pete Buttegieg, who each visited Adel; former Maryland Congressman John Delaney, Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders, and Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren, who stopped in Perry; Hawaii Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard and California Businessman Andrew Yang, who attended the Dallas County Democrats annual fundraiser in Adel; and New Jersey Senator Cory Booker, who visited Waukee.
