A Jefferson woman was recently sentenced to prison for felony charges.
According to court documents, 26-year-old Hayley Brown pled guilty to a Class D Felony for possession of contraband in a correctional institution and a simple misdemeanor for assault. District Court Judge Joseph McCarville sentenced Brown to five years in prison for the felony charge and 30 days in the Greene County Jail for the misdemeanor, with both sentences to run concurrently. She was also given credit for time already served.
The charges stem from an incident on March 20th. Court documents show that Brown was arrested at the law enforcement center for a probation violation. While in a holding room, Brown threw her personal items, which created an unsafe mess in the jail. Two of the items contained marijuana and a smoking device for marijuana.
The sentences are to run concurrently with an imposed five year prison sentence for violating her probation. Brown was serving three years of probation, after pleading guilty to a felony for second degree theft from an August 2018 incident.
