A Panora man was reportedly run over while lying in a rural driveway in Dallas County Tuesday night, and had to be transported to Methodist Hospital in Des Moines by Life Flight.
As previously reported on Raccoon Valley Radio, 54-year-old Scott Roberts was found in the driveway of a residence located at 10241 200th St, south of Yale and just inside the County line. After their investigation, the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office reported that Roberts was run over by the homeowner, 66-year-old Leroy White, who didn’t see the man lying on the ground. According to the report, White was coming home in his 2002 Dodge Ram pickup truck at around 10:40 p.m., and noticed an ATV Side by Side sitting in his driveway with the lights on and engine running. With the lights shining in his face and it being dark out, White was unable to see if anyone was sitting in the ATV so he drove up to it to investigate.
As he pulled up, he felt like he ran over something. White then reversed to see what he had run over, discovering it was the body of Roberts. He called 911, and emergency crews soon arrived on scene. The report indicated that Roberts was alert when they arrived, though he appeared to be under the influence of alcohol and wasn’t aware of where he was. Dallas County Emergency Medical Services transported him to the intersection of highways 44 and 169, where the Life Flight helicopter could safely land. He was taken to Methodist with serious injuries to his arm and stomach. Roberts’ current condition is unknown. Officers on scene noted that Roberts was wearing dark clothing and covered in mud, and coupled with the lights shining in the driver’s face they concluded that White was not at fault for failing to notice the man laying in the driveway.
