The Greene County Sheriff’s office is continuing an investigation into several incidents that have allegedly been associated with one weekend event.
Greene County Sheriff Jack Williams previously told Raccoon Valley Radio that the Sheriff’s office, the Jefferson Police and Fire departments, Greene County Ambulance and Iowa State Patrol responded to several incidents from 9pm Saturday, June 22nd to 2:30am Sunday, June 23rd, all relating to an event held at River Farms Recreation.
Authorities responded to four traffic-related incidents, two resulted in OWI charges and one fatality. The fatal crash happened at 11:57pm on County Road E-53 when 60-year-old Ronald Kolbeck hit a bridge rail and later died from his injuries. Sheriff Williams said a deputy witnessed Kolbeck at the event prior to the crash. The Iowa State Patrol is continuing its investigation and confirmed that since there was a death involved, no charges will be filed. However, they are still investigating a blood test that was taken.
Sheriff Williams previously noted that there were a couple of reports made about underage drinking and minors running alongside Highway 30 in swimsuits.
River Farms Owner Craig Flack said he had 30-40 staff who were strict and kept a close eye on the gate entrance for the 18 and over event. He added they denied individuals entry who were under the age of 18. He also said they didn’t have an alcohol vendor and that the event was promoted as a (BYOB) Bring Your Own Beverage.
Flack said he was disappointed when he started hearing the allegations from the event.
We’ve previously reported that Greene County Attorney Thomas Laehn said no additional charges have been filed at this time. He won’t make his final decision until the investigation is complete.
