Panorama junior Kolby Shackelford tied for 19th place Friday at the High School Golf National Invitational in Orlando.
The tournament hosted 172 of the top high school golfers in the country for two days with the winner receiving a spot in the Junior PGA Championship. Shackelford qualified by winning the Class 2A individual state title in May.
Shackelford finished 3-over par for the tournament after shooting an even par 72 on the first day and a 75 on the second. He finished with a combined five birdies, six bogeys and one double bogey over 36 holes.
He was one of six Iowa golfers participating in the field, alongside five members of the Nevada team. Nevada’s top performer, Dylan Sporer, was one of the players Shackleford finished tied with.
The junior will be the favorite to win another state championship in 2020 after finishing three shots clear of the field this year and being the runner up by just one stroke his sophomore year.
