For the second night in a row, the Greene County High School softball lost a one-sided Heart of Iowa Activities Conference road game. Gilbert took care of the Rams 11-1 in five innings on Thursday night, and Friday night saw Saydel win 11-1, also in five innings, in Des Moines to even the two game regular season series.
Coach Tom Kennedy’s team fell to 8-17 on the season and they finish the HOIAC schedule at 5-9. The Eagles completed the conference schedule with a 7-7 record and they are 11-13 overall.
Greene County had five hits. Emma Stream and Karissa Stephenson doubled, with singles from Megan Carey, Izzy Bravard, and Kyla Beyers. Stephenson had the lone run batted in.
Defense has been an issue at times for the Rams, but they were charged with just one error Friday night, while Saydel had two.
The Rams pitched two eighth graders. Emma Hoyle started and took the loss and Emma Stream relieved. The two combined to allow just five hits, but they walked 11 batters between them.
The Rams play Monday in Storm Lake vs. non-conference opponent St. Mary’s.
