Menlo Fire and Rescue is offering a unique attraction as part of the Menlo Sesquicentennial tomorrow.

Folks can “Ride the Rails” on a steam engine that will take passengers on a 45-minute train ride east and west of the City. The ride costs $14 for adults and $7 for kids 12 and under, and there will be four trips from 9 a.m.- 2:30 p.m. This entertainment is offered through a partnership with the Central States Steam Preservation Association and Iowa Interstate Railroad. Proceeds will go to the Association and to Menlo Fire and Rescue. Menlo Firefighter Ben Gilman says the funds will be going towards the purchase of a new tanker truck, and he mentions that this steam engine features windows so participants will have a picturesque journey through Guthrie County. Tickets can be purchased in advance at the Coon Valley Co-op Telephone Office or at the fire station tomorrow. Cash or check will be accepted.
