The City of Perry is in the home stretch for preparing to roll out the annual Fourth of July Celebration, followed immediately by the Sesquicentennial Celebration.

From July 4th through the 7th, Perry will be the site of a wide assortment of activities for people of all ages, and at several different locations. Perry Chamber of Commerce Director Lynsi Pasutti says she likes to phrase it as “1, 2, 3, 4,” or “One weekend, two events, three music concerts, and four days of fun.” The Fourth of July Celebration will begin with the annual parade down Willis Avenue at 10 a.m. The majority of the activities will then be at Pattee Park and the bandshell, including dance performances, the Bill Riley Talent Search, and a concert by Rukkus.

Pasutti says she’s excited for the Independence Day festivities, and that excitement only grows as it will transition into the 150th event. “We have our annual celebration with the Fourth of July, which always brings a big crowd and is fun for the full family. And then we’re tacking on these extra three days to celebrate Perry’s sesquicentennial. So the theme is ‘Rails to Trails, 150 Years of Growth,’ and so we have some railroad things going on there along with the theme, as well as just general history. But then a lot of fun activities just with any community celebration, that’s what brings people in!”

The Sesquicentennial Celebration will begin Friday, July 5th, with the main events happening at the Perry Municipal Airport, including the Fly-In/Drive-In Concert at 7 p.m. Saturday’s events will be downtown, mostly on Railroad Street between the Public Library and Carnegie Library Museum, focusing and history and kids activities. The day will culminate with the Railroad Street Music Fest, featuring four different bands playing from 4-10 p.m. Finally on Sunday, the Perry Ministerial Association will host church tours and a prayer service from 2-4 p.m., called “150 Years of Faithfulness.”
