Dallas County Engineer Al Miller will be employed with the County for at least one more year, after agreeing to a contract at the recent Board of Supervisors meeting.

Miller was hired to head the Secondary Roads Department in 2015, and has been operating on one-year contracts since. His contract for the next fiscal year will pay him $123,988.80 and will expire June 30, 2020. Given his service to the County over the last four years, the Supervisors are considering the possibility that Miller’s next contract could include multiple years. Miller indicated he would be amenable to a multi-year contract, but pointed out that it would require a public hearing because it would allocate future County resources. Unlike most department heads, the engineer is contracted through the Iowa County Engineers Association, so his continued employment is handled separately from the others.

The Dallas County Secondary Roads Department oversees construction and maintenance on 200 miles of paved roads, 700 miles of gravel roads, and 106 bridges.
