The West Central Valley School Board met for a special meeting Wednesday.
The meeting largely consisted of discussion on whether to purchase equipment breakdown insurance. The District received bids of approximately $48,000 and $52,000 from Specialty Underwriters and the Remi Group, respectively, for one year. Business Manager Symantha Crawford and Superintendent Lance Ridgely recommended the Board go with the Remi Group, or not purchase a policy at all. Their explanation was that the Remi Group has better customer service with an online claim system. Crawford also said the District would need to hire additional staff to use Specialty Underwriters, citing the larger staff Panorama Schools has to handle claims. The Board approved going with the Remi Group on a 4-2 vote, and Crawford stated she would give monthly updates of the claims to the Board this coming year.
The Board then approved a five-year lease agreement for 30 interactive display boards for the elementary buildings. Cost for the displays is about $20,193 annually with about $6,000 in total interest and about $9,000 for installation. Finally, the Board approved the purchase of a diesel bus from Thomas Bus Sales for about $55,181 which includes security cameras. They also approved a motion to advertise for bids to sell an extra bus.
