Your schedule better be “wide open,” as registration will soon begin for the 2019 Jeff Pease Flag Football Classic.
This coed eight-team tournament fundraiser returns to the West Central Valley High School Football Field after a successful first year of raising money for the Jeff Pease Memorial Fund. The tournament is named after the former West Central Valley teacher and football coach who passed away in 2017, and the tournament collected $7,000 last year, which were given as $1,000 scholarships to seven West Central Valley seniors this spring.
Organizer Tom Stiles says the event and scholarship fund honor Pease’s passion for sports and education, “So you know it all goes back to carrying on Jeff’s legacy and that’s our number one goal, is to remember Jeff. And those that come along in the West Central Valley School District or even people outside of the community who as the years go on, they’re not going to know necessarily who Jeff was. So just carrying on his legacy and being able to do that through this tournament is our goal and giving out those scholarships in his name. (We’re) just trying to do our best to make sure everybody’s aware of who Jeff was and what he did for the community through all the years he was with us.”
Stiles adds, they hope to add to the fundraiser’s success with a silent auction. Registration opens July 1st for the event, which will take place on August 31st. For more information visit here.
