One Jefferson Police Officer was recently promoted to an administrative position.

Shane Jones was promoted to the rank of sergeant on June 17th. The Van Meter native was hired as a patrol officer in March of 2016. He had previously submitted his resignation to join the Iowa State Patrol. But as he began training for the state patrol this past January, he decided to rejoin the local police department saying that he didn’t want to lose the ability to investigate crimes in Jefferson.

Jones says he wanted to continue to support the City of Jefferson anyway he could. He talks about what he’s looking forward to the most in his new position.

“I’m looking forward to being able to mentor our young and new officers and also how the administrative side of the police department works.”

Officer Jason Kroeger has been serving as sergeant since January 17th. However Police Chief Mark Clouse tells Raccoon Valley Radio that Kroeger decided to step down as sergeant but continue to be with the department as a patrol officer. Clouse says Kroeger wanted to spend more time with family, but his previous obligation as sergeant wasn’t allowing for that to happen.
