The Greene County Board of Supervisors met Monday in regular session.
A public hearing was held for a hog confinement expansion in section 5 of Dawson Township. The Master Matrix score was 450 points and the Iowa Department of Natural Resources requires a minimum of 440 points. Two individuals spoke in favor of the expansion and said the Alliger family were good land stewards and ran their operation well. Currently there is one confinement building and the operator, Alex Alliger, wanted to build an additional structure. The expansion would increase the number of hogs to 4,400. Following the public hearing, the Board recommended approval to the DNR.
The Board then approved to appropriate 85-percent of the funds to all departments for the 2020 fiscal year and they approved an amendment to the current fiscal year budget for the appropriations. The Board approved to increase the ambulance department of $24,367 and clerk of court of $5,000. The increase would come from the county attorney account for the total amount, which would be a ten-percent decrease and therefore doesn’t require a public hearing.
The Board also approved a $16,023 contract for Schumacher Elevator to make repairs to the Mahanay Memorial Carillon Tower and the Greene County Courthouse elevators, in order to meet the 2020 national code. Finally, the Board approved three applicants for satisfaction of forgivable loan documents for the discontinued down payment assistance program.
The Board will meet this Thursday for an additional special meeting.
