The Jefferson Parks and Recreation Board met Wednesday.

The majority of the meeting was a discussion by the Board on hiring a new Parks and Rec Director. Current Director Vicky Lautner will be retiring in October. The Board received several applications and narrowed their choices to the top five candidates for in person interviews to take place in July. The goal is to have someone hired to start August 1st so that Lautner can train that individual. Once the new director is hired, the Board will start the process to hire an assistant director.

Next the Board heard a report from a discussion with the City of Jefferson Wage and Benefit Committee. It was recommended that the director salary to be in the range of $48,000-$56,000 and the assistant director’s salary between $30,000-$38,000.

During open forum, Jefferson Mayor and President of the Cyclists of Greene Craig Berry presented a donation check to the parks and rec department. He indicated that the funds be used for a project in conjunction with the new high school and career academy project with the Greene County School District.

The Board then tabled a decision on upgrading the computer system of the Greene County Community Center until a new director was hired. Lautner reported that Durlam Electric was notified to start replacing the fire alarm system of the community center.
