Greene County High School junior Junior Gutierrez has been named to the Class 1A first All-State team by the Iowa High School Soccer Coaches Association. The high-scoring forward led the entire state, regardless of class, in goals with 55, and in points scored with 123. The second most goals scored were 46 and 104 was the second highest point total.

Gutierrez played a big role in helping the Rams to qualify for the State Tournament in just their second year as a soccer program. Coach Carl Behne’s team lost in the quarterfinals to eventual Champion Regina Catholic of Iowa City by a 2-1 score in overtime.

The Rams finished with a 14-6 record and averaged more than five goals per contest.

Joining Gutierrez on the 1A first team are seniors Luke Yetley of Solon, Johnathon Castrejon of South Tama County, Adrian Herrera and Brayton Tuma, both of AHSTW (Avoca). Juniors along with Gutierrez are Seth Kiesel of ASHTW, Luke Mieska of Treynor, Saw Win Lin of Columbus Catholic (Waterloo), Bennett Meier and Luke Yetley, both of Solon, Gabriel Seele of West Liberty, and sophomore Alec Wick of Regina Catholic.
