A huge third inning helped the ACGC baseball team finally notch its first win Wednesday with a 17-7 victory over East Union.
The Chargers jumped out in front to lead 2-0 after an inning and a half but East Union was able to tie the game at two in the bottom of the second. That’s when ACGC’s offense erupted for 13 runs in the top of the third. They added two more in the fifth before East Union scored five in the bottom half but couldn’t stop the game from a mercy rule ending.
Avery Wheatley and Newell Rogers each drove in three runs as the team notched seven hits and 13 walks along with seven stolen bases. East Union didn’t help itself in the field as they committed nine errors.
Charger coach Taylor Morris said the team came out ready to play getting the early lead but added that there’s still work to do as ACGC did strand 11 runners on base. Morris said it was a great win and he hopes it gives the team confidence to propel them the rest of the season.
