Greene County and PCM (Monroe) split a Heart of Iowa Activities Conference softball doubleheader in Jefferson last night The Mustangs won 4-1 in the completion of a contest started in late May in Monroe that was halted by weather. They led 3-1 in the top of the fourth and held the Rams in check. The Mustangs were up 3-0 in game two, but the Rams put together back-to-back three run innings in the fourth and fifth for a 6-4 victory.

Coach Tom Kennedy’s team is 3-7 in the conference and 5-15 overall while the Mustangs are 4-5 in the league and 7-9 on the season.

Three pitchers were used in game two and all were eighth graders. Emma Hoyle went the distance for the Rams and picked up the win. She allowed seven hits and walked two batters, hitting two with pitches, and did not strike anyone out. Only two runs were earned by PCM as three errors, all in the third inning, led to two runs. Hoyle was two for four at the plate with a run batted in.

Megan Carey had two hits, as did Carmyn Paup, who also had two RBI. Karissa Stephenson and Izzy Bravard each had a hit with Tieryn Tucker collecting two RBI on one hit. All Greene County hits were singles.

The completion of the suspended game had Hoyle pitch the first three innings in May in Monroe and Jenna Beyers pitch the three innings in Jefferson last night. Hoyle took the loss. She gave up three walks and one hit while striking out two. Beyers also allowed just one hit, but walked two with one strikeout. The Rams managed four hits, all singles, with one each for Carey, Beyers, Paup, and Stephensen. Hoyle knocked in the only run.

The Rams play a non-conference game tonight in Ft. Dodge vs. St. Edmond.
