A block of 16th Street between Lucinda and Taft streets in Perry has been under construction since a frost heave wrecked the pavement in the early spring. However, it’s expected to be wrapped up in the coming days.
Perry City Administrator Sven Peterson says Des Moines Asphalt is planning to tackle the project this Monday, contingent on reasonable weather conditions, and he points out that it shouldn’t take long to finish. “It’s just a simple overlay, so they’ll be in and out in one day. So minimal disruption, people will probably be able to leave for work in the morning and then come back that afternoon on a brand new street. So definitely a little bit longer than we all wanted it to take, but (it was) kind of a wet and busy season for contractors just getting started in the spring. Because it was kind of an emergency repair, we are lucky to get a contractor that would be able to come in rather quickly in all respects, to get that repaired for us.”
Peterson adds, the other half of the project included crack sealing on the Wiese Park trail system, which was completed last week. The City Council approved a pay request of $7,854.99 from Des Moines Asphalt for the finished work at their most recent meeting.
