The hangar and runway projects at the Perry Municipal Airport continue to move forward, and at the recent City Council meeting there were a few related action items approved.
First, the Council approved a change order in the amount of $41,824, which includes work necessary to address unknown electrical issues that arose while preparing the new hangar. Perry City Administrator Sven Peterson said crews need to clean up the underground wiring and install a new power source, which will serve both the hangar and the extended runway. He points out that the cost of the change will be 90% reimbursed by the Federal Aviation Administration. The City also approved a work order on the professional services agreement with Bolton and Menk for $52,000, which includes amendments to the original agreement in order to cover the construction phase and electrical upgrades.
As for the runway extension, the Council approved a round of land acquisition, which Peterson said included purchases from four entities and cost around $1.3 million. He adds, the timeline for the airport projects is starting to come into focus. “So hangar-wise, right now they’re just beginning doing some of that electrical work so that they can tear down that old hangar. The new hangar is ordered (and) should be delivered some time in July or August. And then from there on it’s just a matter of pouring footings, floor, and putting up the building. So probably total completion we’ll be looking at September or October for that. (The) runway is largely dependent on how land acquisition goes. If we’re able to close on everything, we could put our bid package together to move dirt next year, and I’m hoping that’s what we’ll be able to do. So you could see dirt moving as early as next year out there.”
