The Guthrie County Board of Supervisors met in regular session Tuesday.
The meeting began with a Transfer Station update from Director Jotham Arber and Facilities Manager Brandon Thompson. Arber said that this spring the station has collected more garbage than last year, and he is excited for the new truck they will be receiving to transport their own waste to the Carroll landfill. Arber also said there is potential to officially close the county’s landfill, which has not been used since 1998 in lieu of the Transfer Station. This would eliminate future inspections from Iowa Department of Natural Resources, and the former landfill could be open to other uses.
Next, the Board approved resolutions to adopt the county’s procurement policy and the county’s procedures for fraud reporting, conflict of interest, and to safeguard personal information as required by the Federal Emergency Management Agency to qualify for disaster assistance. County Engineer Josh Sebern told the Board that a FEMA representative will be meeting with him to discuss road assistance this week. The Board also approved spending a total of $17,800 in right of way purchase agreements and a temporary easement agreement for 1.17 acres of land at York Avenue. Finally, the Board approved a fireworks permit for Weston Grow.
