North Polk is tied for first place in the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference softball race and Greene County is 10 games below the .500 mark after Monday nights’ 6-3 victory for the Comets. The Rams had a 3-0 lead after 2-1/2 innings and the score was tied 3-3 after four. Three fifth inning runs by the Comets were the final runs scored. Six Greene County errors resulted in three unearned runs for NP, while the Comets were charged with just one error.
Emma Hoyle went all six innings on the pitching rubber. The eighth grader allowed only three earned runs on seven hits and two walks. She struck two batters out.
The Rams out hit the Comets eight to seven. Senior Jenna Beyers singled, doubled, and drove in two runs. Junior Izzy Bravard singled twice, with one single apiece for Hoyle, Kyla Beyers, Tieryn Tucker, and Megan Carey.
NP is 7-1 in the conference and 13-7 overall while the Rams are 4-14 and 2-6. Greene County hosts non-conference opponent Manson-Northwest Webster tonight in Jefferson at the City diamond.
