The Perry City Council convened Monday evening in regular session.
The meeting began with a report from Public Works Director Jack Butler, who talked about mosquito spraying in the City so far this year. He promised the public that crews have been spraying for the last three weeks, and that the weather this year has contributed to a high number of bugs in the area. Next, Mayor John Andorf gave a proclamation for Perry’s Sesquicentennial Celebration, which will be held from July 5-7.
The action items began with approval of a change order in the amount of $41,824 for additional electrical work on the new hangar at the Perry Municipal Airport. The Council also approved a work order of $52,000 to Bolton & Menk for the project. Also in old business, they approved a pay request of $7,854.99 to Des Moines Asphalt for work done on the 16th Street overlay and Wiese Park trail crack sealing project. The trail is finished already, and work on the overlay will begin on June 24th.
In new business, the Council approved a resolution setting the salaries for City employees for fiscal year 2020, followed by a resolution to waive the building permit fees for the upcoming facility project at Perry High School. Next, they set two public hearings regarding rezone requests for Friday, June 28th at 8 a.m., which is the date of the end of year special session. Other items approved included: an agreement with the City of Dawson for mosquito spraying; a business service agreement with Minburn Communications; and four resolutions approving land acquisition for the airport runway extension.
Finally, the Council approved the first reading on an ordinance to amend the rules for zoning in AC (arterial commercial) districts. The second reading will be held at the next meeting.
