The Guthrie Center School Board met in regular session Monday.

The meeting began with the Board approving the booster club to go forward with purchasing a bell monument to honor outgoing Superintendent Steve Smith. The booster club is responsible for all costs of this project, but the Board will further determine a location for the installation in the next month. Next, Becky Benton of State Street Insurance gave an update on the District’s EMC Insurance coverage, and the Board received a presentation on the Children’s Internet Protection Act policy from Tech Coordinator Dave Faucher.

The Board then approved no change of the student meal price at $2.35 and a 10 cent increase for adult meal prices for $3.75. They also approved a college instructor salary contract for teachers instructing college-credit classes, and an audit proposal from Nolte, Cornman & Johnson, P.C. The Board then approved their emergency operations plan, which Smith mentioned is confidential and will be reviewed annually. Finally, the Board approved a second reading of a drone policy and their priorities for the 2020 Iowa Legislative Session: sharing and reorganization, market-competitive wages, supplemental state aid, and mental health.
