The Greene County Board of Supervisors met Monday in regular session.

During open forum, County Attorney Thomas Laehn addressed the Board. He said a few county officials met with some City of Jefferson representatives on a dispatch service agreement. Laehn said the County Sheriff’s office provides dispatch services to the City for free. Going into the 2020 fiscal year, an agreement was settled that the City would pay $25,000 to continue having the Sheriff’s office provide dispatch services. Laehn will bring a finalized version of the agreement to the Board for their approval.

Laehn then updated the Board on a new ordinance. He said he is working with Sheriff Jack Williams to draft a social host ordinance. The new ordinance would make it a crime for an adult to host a party where alcohol is being served to minors. Williams told the Board that Boone County has a similar ordinance in place and reports of similar incidents were down over 90-percent. Laehn is working on a draft of the ordinance for the Board to consider approving at a future meeting.

Next the Board approved an annual Statement of Understanding with the Central Iowa Community Services (CICS) Mental Health Region to pay Greene County Disabilities Services Coordinator Ellen Ritter 80-percent of her full-time salary to CICS. The other 20-percent comes from the county’s general fund for Ritter to provide general assistance to residents.
