The 2019 Dallas County Fair is less than a month away, and the Fair Board is once again offering an open class photography competition.

Dallas County ISU Extension Director Jeff Jackson says the contest is open to all ages, with divisions for adults and for those 17-years-old and younger. There is no fee to enter, and the first place winners will each receive $100. Jackson adds, there are different categories in the contest and people can enter each of them, but there are some rules. “There’s three categories: there’s farm or rural life, there’s animal or wildlife, and then there’s just general open. Although they (the judges) don’t want to see how good you are at Photoshop, they said this is for photography not those Photoshop experts. Photos can be up to 11×14 and the rules are available on the Dallas County Fair Board’s website, and they’re pretty much standard to what the State Fair uses for their photo submissions.”

The competition is being sponsored by the Waukee Area Arts Council, and the deadline to submit entries is July 3rd at 4 p.m. Photos can be dropped off or mailed to the Extension Office, located at the Dallas County Fairgrounds north of Adel. The mailing address is Dallas County Fair, 28059 Fairground Rd, Adel, IA 50003. For a link to the rules for the competition, click the link below.
