The Panorama School Board met in regular session Monday.
The meeting began with discussion about purchasing an electronic sign. Superintendent Shawn Holloway said the Board has desired having a sign near Highway 44 to display announcements for the district, for which they received a quote from Eagle Sign Company. Holloway explains why they’ve chosen to put this project on the backburner, “Ideally it (would’ve) been out where it was visible along the road, but our right-of-way ends where our sidewalks are, which is about a foot from our parking lot. And so there’s just a couple small areas that were even going to be options, and in both of those locations there would’ve been some visibility issues.”
Next, the Board approved the first reading to update policies on employee travel compensation, credit and procurement cards, and employee cell phone use, per the Iowa Association of School Boards’ recommendation. The Board then approved a $5 dollar-per-day increase for substitute teachers and a $.50-hourly increase for paraeducators, cooks, and custodians. They also approved a drivers education fee of $275 for the next school year, and approved no changes in next year’s breakfast and lunch fees. Finally, the Board approved an emergency operations guide, a copier lease agreement with Access Systems, open enrollment applications, and the purchase of a new 6th-12th grade science curriculum for $28,518.66.
