Close to 40 people attended a meet and greet event for a Democratic Presidential candidate at Greene Bean Coffee in Jefferson Monday.
Montana Governor Steve Bullock told attendees about stopping tobacco companies from paying their way to get on a ballot in his state to keep ten-percent of his population from getting healthcare coverage. He also talked about utilizing apprenticeships and specialized certificates at colleges to help the Montana workforce. He touched on stopping corruption of money going through Washington D.C., having a path toward U.S. citizenship for undocumented immigrants, and having predictability and certainty when it comes to conserving natural resources in the country.
With the Democratic field now over 20 candidates, Bullock talks about what sets him apart from the rest.
“We’re in your community, meaning that in Montana as a Democrat, you don’t just go to the pockets of ‘Blue’ you have to go to all across my 147,000-square-mile state. And this is more than about just getting enough electoral votes. If we become a party of just the coasts and a whole lot of the rest of the country feels like there’s no connection to us, well then we’re not going to win. And that’s what I’ve been able to do both in running for office but also in governing.”
This was Bullock’s third trip to Iowa since he announced his candidacy for president. He also made trips to Storm Lake, Sioux City and Council Bluffs on Monday. To hear more from Bullock, listen to next Monday’s Community State Bank in Paton Let’s Talk Greene County program.
