A West Des Moines man was arrested on felony drug charges after an alleged shoplifting incident in Casey Monday.
According to the criminal complaint, a Guthrie County Sheriff’s Deputy responded to the incident at 3:30 p.m. at the White Oak gas station. An employee reported a suspicious male attempted to purchase items by swiping an Arkansas identification card and eventually left the store with the unpurchased items. The deputy located the suspect in a grey Dodge van outside the store that had Illinois license plates and was registered to a rental company. The suspect appeared to be heavily under the influence of a drug, and only rolled the window down a few inches to speak with law enforcement. The deputy convinced the man to give him his ID, which then showed he had an active nationwide arrest warrant for parole violation of burglary and operating without consent.
Court documents show the deputy called for assistance, and after repeated attempts by the deputy to get the suspect out of his vehicle, a window was broken, and the suspect was taken into custody. While recovering the stolen items from the convenient store, authorities also found what appeared to be marijuana and methamphetamine. Thirty-four-year-old Larry Golston, Jr. was charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance third or subsequent offense, a class D felony; and simple misdemeanors of interference with official acts and fifth degree theft.
