Three Guthrie Center Elementary students were recently awarded for an essay contest sponsored by the Guthrie Center Chamber of Commerce.
The Chamber holds an annual contest for students to write about their parents, and Chamber President Kristen Crouthamel says they tied in the school’s “Choose Kind” campaign asking kids to write how their parents are the most kind or helpful in the community. The Chamber awarded the top three winners with $60, $40, and $25 in Chamber bucks to Hali Klingenberg, Blake Ganzer, and Olivia Mahaffey, respectively. Crouthamel shares why the Chamber takes part in this and other Guthrie Center school events, “You know we want the kids in the community to know that the Chamber members and the business leaders are supporting them and then of course by giving out Chamber bucks then their parents will shop here in town so it’s kind of a win-win for both of us.”
The Chamber also recently provided refreshments for Adair-Casey/Guthrie Center High School’s senior awards night.
