Just last night, ADM’s Softball team opened up a 2-day tournament being hosted in Adel on the Tigers home diamond. Today, the tournament concludes for ADM, and the other three teams in competition, Ankeny Centennial, Roland-Story, and Winterset.
Coach Jodi Doty has had a wild week with her team, as the Tigers have been in action every night this week, minus Tuesday.
ADM picked up a 3-0 win on Monday versus Winterset to open the week. That game was tied heading into the 6th inning, before ADM secured baserunners and put three runs on the board. The Tigers ended up winning that game 3-0.
Wednesday night was the showdown that many had circled on their calendar. 4A, #1 ADM, vs. 4A, #2 Carlisle. The Wildcats were in complete control after 5 innings of play in Adel. In front of a packed house, not a seat was to be had in the bleachers, plus a couple hundred more spectators standing along foul lines, and sitting in the outfield.
Carlisle led 5-0 heading into the 6th inning, as ADM was only able to muster up a single hit through the first four frames. The Tigers were able to pick up one run in the 6th, and we headed into the 7th, with a 5-1 score.
The Tigers rallied and put together four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to send the game to extra innings.
A raucous crowd stayed the entire game and was sent into a fever pitch on a swing by Junior, Abbie Hlas that sent the ball into deep left-center field and over the fence. ADM had one base runner on first, as Freshman, Olivia Tollari was walked just one at-bat before. A two-run, walk-off homerun for Hlas ended the game and improved ADM after Wednesday to 8-0.
After today, ADM Softball will host Ballard on Monday night in Adel.
