After struggling to score in the early part of the season the ACGC baseball team was finally able to put some runs on the board Thursday, but it wasn’t quite enough as they dropped both games of a doubleheader to Interstate 35 by scores of 13-12 and 13-1.
The closer of the two games looked like it was going to be another route as I-35 opened up a 9-0 lead through three and a half innings. The Charger bats came alive though with four runs in the bottom of the fourth. and another four in the fifth to make it a 9-8 game. I-35 got four back in the top of the seventh. Then ACGC got four more in the final frame, but couldn’t quite complete the comeback to get that first win of the season.
Avery Wheatley led the way for the Chargers with three hits and two runs scored. Ben Kingery went 2-for-2 with a double, two walks, two stolen bases, two runs scored and one RBI. Kingery also went 2-for-2 with two doubles in the second game.
