When Greene County lost 2-1 in overtime to two-time defending Class 1A State Champion Regina Catholic of Iowa City in Des Moines last Friday, Ram Coach Carl Behne had an inkling his team just took the 2019 State Champion into OT- and he was right. Regina nipped fellow Catholic school, Columbus Catholic of Waterloo, 1-0 on Tuesday afternoon for the 1A Championship. It was the third straight crown for the Regals, who are now a remarkable 8-0 in title games, and 30-7 overall in State tournaments.

The Rams were making their first trip to State in just their second year as a program on their own. Greene County lost 2-1 in overtime to the Regals in Friday’s quarterfinals to finish the season 14-6. The Rams expect to be highly ranked in 2020 with more than 90 of their 107 goals from 2019 returning. Greene County was ranked eighth to finish this season.
