Panorama Assistant Track and Field Coach Chris Webner received a high honor Monday when the Iowa Track Coaches Association named him the girls track and field assistant coach of the year.
Webner has been involved with the Lady Panther track program for more than 20 years. He’s coached at least seven different girls to the state meet in discus with one qualifier in shot put and a number of medalists at both the state meet and Drake Relays.
Among recent athletes coached by Webner are Kayla Muyskens (2007), who went on to be a national champion thrower for Division II Central Missouri State. Shelby Lane (2015) just finished her throwing career at the University of Dubuque and was a national qualifier in the discus. Meanwhile this past spring Lydia Knapp broke the school record in discus and finished fourth in the state meet. She’ll be throwing at the Division I level next year for the University of South Dakota.
The statewide honor is given to just one coach, and Webner received more than 80% of the vote.
