Emergency agencies, residents, and city officials across the southern part of Guthrie County are recovering from Tuesday morning’s severe thunderstorms which included some 60 mile-per-hour wind gusts and dime-sized hail showers.
Adair and Guthrie County Emergency Management Coordinator Bob Kempf says the Cities of Adair, Casey, Menlo, and Stuart all were impacted by the storm, “The main form of damage was of course tree limbs and trees that came down due to the high winds. There were a couple of reports of rotation but there was no confirmed sightings of tornadoes or funnel clouds. Most of all our damage was caused by straight-line winds.”
Kempf adds the largest tree damage was generally in the Casey area, where a few large trees were completely uprooted at Oakwood Cemetery. Flooding is also a cause for concern in Casey, with the Middle River being at flood level according to Kempf. As of Tuesday evening, the river was just a couple feet below the bridge on White Pole Road east of town.
