The Guthrie Center Fire Department will soon be equipped with a new advanced fire truck to respond to fires more effectively.
The Guthrie Center Fire Association recently received a Guthrie County Community Foundation grant of $12,335 to help outfit an ultra-high pressure attack truck which was purchased with funds from their annual Casino Night fundraiser and the Howey Estate fund. Training Officer Brady Langgaard explains how this new truck will benefit the department, “The premise of ultra-high pressure fire fighting is using water more efficiently. So we take a conventional line which runs anywhere from 50 to 250 psi (pounds-per-square-inch) and we up the pressure of that to 1,250 psi, which breaks the water down into smaller droplets and allows it to absorb heat faster. So we can use less water to absorb heat, so it’ll prolong our time that we can use.”
Langgaard adds the fire association is very appreciative of the community foundation grant, and they hope to have the new truck in house and equipped in the next couple weeks.
