As there continues to be more rainfall throughout the spring and summer months, the City of Jefferson reminds residents and business owners of the City’s grass ordinance.

All grass, weeds and brush must not be longer than eight inches in length. If it gets above that length, the City has the right to issue one notice per year per property owner to mow it. If the property owner still neglects to mow it, then City crews will mow it and the property owner will be charged at a rate of $130 per hour with a minimum of one hour. City Administrator Mike Palmer reminds everyone to not blow grass clippings into the City streets.

“Essentially what happens when it gets to be a lot of a pile, I kind of liken it to like flushing paper towels down the toilet. When it gets down there all that debris it just plugs up all of our storm drains. So please be cautious and keep it out of the street.”

01Palmer appreciates the majority of residents who follow the grass ordinance and they haven’t had to issue too many violations this year.
