Several individuals have submitted nomination papers to be on the ballot for a special election to fill a vacancy on the Jefferson City Council.
The list of candidates include Amelia Carman, Darren Jackson, Michael Mentzer and Mark Wright. Each candidate had to get a minimum of 25 signatures to be put on the June 25th special election ballot. The special election was called for when a petition was submitted to City Hall with over 65 required signatures needed to override the decision made by the City Council at their April 23rd meeting to appoint Jackson to the vacant seat. The Council made the appointment based on the recommendation from Mayor Craig Berry, who said he made his decision based on the letters and emails he received from six interested individuals. The four candidates were among those that originally submitted letters and emails of interest
The Council set June 25th as the special election date. The polling locations will be at the Greene County Courthouse rotunda for the 1st Precinct, Trinity Lutheran Church for the 2nd Precinct, and the Greene County Community Center for the 3rd Precinct. The polls will be open from 7am to 8pm. The candidate that is elected will serve the remainder of the term through 2021.
