Ballard (Huxley) was a non-conference baseball winner over Greene County last night at Allensworth Field in Jefferson on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com. At the City Diamond on E. Lincolnway, North Polk (Alleman) won a Heart of Iowa Activities Conference softball game vs. Greene County.

The baseball game was scoreless after two innings, then the Bombers erupted for nine runs and they went on to win by a final of 11-1 in five innings by the 10-run rule. Senior David Richter got his first varsity pitching start. He went the first 2-2/3 innings, allowing nine runs, seven earned, on seven hits, three walks, and one batter hit with a pitch. Richter did not strikeout anyone. Junior Branden Hoyle pitched the last 2-1/3 innings and had three strikeouts to go with a walk and two hits allowed. Both runs off him were earned.

Greene County was out hit nine to five with all the Rams’ hits being singles. Senior Joe Anderson had the lone run batted in with a fourth inning base hit. Senior Austin Delp had two singles, with one each from freshman Bryce Stalder and eighth grader Brayden Roberts. The Rams have lost three in a row and are now 2-3 on the season, while Ballard improves to 3-1. Greene County plays in Winterset tonight and at Dallas Center-Grimes tomorrow.

NP won the softball game 10-2. Eighth grader Emma Hoyle pitched the first four innings and took the loss. Senior Jenna Beyers pitched the last three innings. The Comets scored a run in the second inning, five in the fourth, and two more in both the fifth and seventh innings. The Rams put single runs on the board in the fifth and sixth. NP out hit the Rams 10 to five and the Comets had one error while Greene County was charged with four errors. Hoyle doubled for the lone extra base hits for the Rams and she had one of the runs batted in. Sophomore Karissa Stephenson had a single and RBI. The other hits for the Rams belonged to senior Megan Carey, freshman Carmyn Paup, and junior Izzy Bravard. Greene County is off tonight and plays tomorrow at the Bondurant-Farrar tournament.
