Due to the recent influx of rain in central Iowa over the past weeks, work on the parking lot of the Dallas County Auditor’s Office has grinded to a halt.
Unable to work until there are a few consecutive days of dry weather, the contractor AECOM promises they will progress efficiently once able to resume. AECOM representative Todd Allyn told the Board of Supervisors that crews were able to get most of the initial ground work done before the weather started to disrupt them, including the installation of a new subdrain system and repairs to the building’s foundation. Allyn said the project is currently around 32% complete, and he’s hopeful to be finished before the end of June.
With the parking lot set to remain closed for another month, the Auditor’s Office will continue to be accessed through the south entrance along the alley. Auditor Julia Helm pointed out that there is currently one active election where early voting is open, which involves the $15.75 million bond referendum for the Adel-DeSoto-Minburn School District. She said they haven’t had many complaints, and voters have been able to get in without trouble. Early voting is being conducted at the Auditor’s Office, though on the day of the election the polling locations will be elsewhere, so Helm doesn’t anticipate there to be any major issues with the process.
