All systems are go for this year’s kids summer reading program with the Jefferson Public Library.

Children’s Librarian Terry Clark says the theme is a “Universe of Stories” and it’s free for all four-year-olds to fifth graders to participate. She points out there are a variety of activities for youngsters to do including look-and-finds, guessing the number of planets in a jar, making solar system neck chains, astronaut training and marking things off on a Spaceopoly board game, which Clark notes can be turned in for prizes once it is completely filled out. She explains some of the activities with the board game.

“So they’ll be sticking mosaic stickers on a mural, they’ll be reading by the light of the moon, they’ll learn how to do the moonwalk dance steps, which will be really fun. They’ll read one paragraph like a robot, they can color on the ‘Universe of Stories’ coloring poster, and lots of different kinds of reading and ways to read. So I think it’s going to be a lot of fun.”

While kids are encouraged to participate for the entire program from June 12th through July 29th, Clark says kids can join whenever they can and do however much of the program they want. At the final party on July 29th, the top prize is gift certificate for a new bicycle. Registration begins on June 1st.
