With Memorial Day coming up on Monday, there are a few services happening in Churdan and Jefferson.
The day begins with a few events in Churdan. At 8am there will be a mass service at the St. Patrick’s Historical Church, followed by a military service at the church cemetery. Then at 9:30 will be a military service taking place at the Highland Township Cemetery with the Town and Country Band to perform. There will also be a veteran’s memorial dedication. Finally from 8am to noon the American Legion Auxiliary will be serving rolls and coffee at the American Legion Hall in Churdan.
There will be two services in Jefferson on Monday. The first one is at the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery at 9:30am. A Salute to Our Fallen Heroes program will take place with a firing square and the playing of “Taps.”
At the Jefferson Municipal Cemetery, a program will begin at 10:45am. There will be the raising of the American flag and the Lindsay “Medal of Honor” flag, along with the Greene County High School band performing two selections. The winning essay from the Flag Essay Contest will be read, along with a Memorial Day Address. A firing square and the playing of “Taps” will round out the program.
