For the third straight year, the ACGC softball team has started the season with a victory. They’ll look to make it back-to-back seasons with at least two consecutive wins to open the season, when they host the Madrid Tigers tonight.
The Chargers have dropped the last three games to the Tigers by a combined five runs. Madrid won game one of last year’s doubleheader in extra innings and game two in the bottom of the 7th. The Tigers lost three seniors from last year’s 12-17 squad, but their top three hitters all return this summer. Despite plenty of optimism going into the series with the Chargers, Madrid dropped it’s opener Monday night at Glidden-Ralston. Sophomore starting pitcher Macy Gibbons allowed two earned runs on five hits and walked six Wildcat batters in the 8-9 setback.
The Chargers are coming off a 12-1 thumping of Audubon in Guthrie Center, Monday. Sophomore Kylie Young tallied her first career home run in the victory, becoming the fifth active Charger to record a long ball in her career. Senior Savana Fuller pitched the entire game, allowing just one hit and no earned runs.
You can hear the game live on KKRF2 and RaccoonValleyRadio.com. Pregame is set for 5:30 with first pitch around 6 from Guthrie Center.
