The Perry City Council convened Monday evening in regular session.

The meeting started with a public hearing to discuss the fiscal year 2019 budget amendment, which City Finance Officer Susie Moorhead said includes around $4.9 million in additional revenue, and about $4 in extra expenditures. No one spoke against the amendment, so following the hearing the Council approved it as presented. In new business, the Council approved establishing the position of Sanitation Supervisor, which City Administrator Sven Peterson emphasized was not a new hire, but rather a promoting of a current employee.

Next the Council tabled action on awarding a bid for the Public Safety Building parking lot project so that City Engineer Matt Ferrier with Bolton and Menk could attempt to negotiate a better price. Ferrier said if he’s unable to do so, he would recommend rejecting the bids and to try again later. The Council did approve a bid for the 16th Street overlay and Wiese Park crack sealing project, which was awarded to Des Moines Asphalt for $38,000. Ferrier said the bid was higher than they would have liked, but since there is some urgency to get the project done he felt it was fair.

Following that, the Council approved the McCreary Community Building facility assessment and needs report as presented by ETHOS Design Group, as well as a resolution authorizing entering into an agreement with the cities of Boone, Carroll and Jefferson for a combined marketing campaign. They then rejected a request by the Chamber of Commerce to allow people to bring alcoholic beverages to the downtown area for the June 7th Friday Fest, as they wanted more time to consider the possibilities. The meeting concluded with the approval of the second and third readings of an ordinance amending the no parking zones on Estella Street, putting the new ordinance into effect.
