It’s a short transition between spring and summer sports seasons at ACGC. Just two days after the conclusion of the state track and field meet in Des Moines, the Charger softball and baseball teams are set to open up their summer seasons tonight. Weather permitting, both squads will host the Audubon Wheelers
In their opening game last year in Audubon, the ACGC softball team dispatched the Wheelers in six innings after reaching the ten-run rule with a 13-2 final. Senior Savana Fuller pitched the entire game, striking out eight Wheeler batters and allowing the two runs on two hits. Fuller also was the top hitter from that game, going 4-5 with a home run. Returning players Madalyn Kelsey and Jadeyn Carrick also tallied homers for the gold and black. All three are expected to be in the lineup tonight.
The Charger baseball team was on the other end of the tilt as they fell to Audubon in the opening game last season, 9-3. The Chargers gave up six runs in the opening three innings in Audubon and couldn’t recover. ACGC is still looking for their first opening night win in program history. They’ll attempt to accomplish that feat with first-year head coach Taylor Morris at the helm.
Weather permitting, you can hear the softball matchup on KKRF2 and RaccoonValleyRadio.com. Pre-game coverage begins at 6:30 with first pitch set for around 7 from Guthrie Center.
